Owner - Personal Trainer - Group Fitness Instructor - Nutrition Consultant
My interest in fitness started at a very early age, watching dancers and aerobics instructors on TV mimicking their moves as an impressionable 6 year old. That attraction to fitness continued when I began taking extra courses in junior high for strength training. I participated in junior high and high school sports and continued with volleyball in intramurals after high school. My interest in sports and fitness continued throughout my time on Active Duty in the U.S. Navy.
Although I continued my participation in sports during my time working at Microsoft in Redmond, WA. Long hours at a desk, free soda and coffee and a bout of "what do I do now that I'm out of the military" lead to a weight gain of nearly 30 pounds. After taking a long look in the mirror and saying "What happened" I decided that this wasn't me. In 2004 after working out and eating right changed my life for the better, I decided to make fitness an "official" endeavor. I became a trainer at American Woman Fitness in 2004 in order to bring my interest in fitness to other people. It was during that time that I came to realize that it wasn't just about fitness, and it never was...
I quickly realized "Fitness" wasn't just being physically fit. I wasn't interested in just helping someone work out at the gym or teaching someone to use the equipment properly, I wanted to help them to understand how exercise could be fun and interesting, how eating differently could make all the difference in the world in getting results and how mental health is a key aspect to physical health.
It's not just fitness; it's a lifestyle, it's health and healing… Personal Training wasn't just about training for an individual person but a deeply personalized experience and plan as unique as the client receiving the training.
When I moved to California in 2006 I began training in Kenpo Karate. I continued training to obtain my Brown Belt in Kenpo as well as an instructor for Children's Kenpo Karate classes. Over the course of 5 years, training on my own, teaching children's classes and substitute teaching fitness classes it became clear that helping people wasn't just a passion. It was my calling.
After nearly 15 years in the technology industry/military, I decided to drop it all and make healing and health my business! I am an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified Personal Trainer, TRX credentialed, Mat Pilates certified and ACE Nutrition certified.
I continue to further my education in fitness and nutrition, as well as use my own experiences to bring a heartfelt, sincere and true approach to all of my work with clients. You will never feel like just a number when you come to Not Just Fitness and I promise to give you the best of myself with every interaction you have with me.
